Hancock School, Lexington, MA
11-01-2008
There was a fire at the old Hancock School in Lexington, yesterday. I hope the building will be restored. It is one of my favorite examples of architecture of its era in the Boston area. The developers did it a disservice aesthetically when they turned it into condos by covering up the foundation's dramatic details, infringing on the simple monumental shapes with pure-ugly shrubbery.
Below are thumbnails I shot today. Click on the tiny image for a larger view.
I am not affiliated with the paper or the town government. Just a Hancock alum and architecture observer. So, there's nothing particular I'm apt to do, but you can sign the guestbook. It's a way to be in touch or express your thoughts.
I have bigger, clearer images if anyone wants them. They're too big to put here without a hassle. Just leave a message in the guestbook if you want one, I'll email it to you most likely. Cut me some slack on time, I have kids and a life. Thanks.
